Programme Approach
This Alternative Provision uses a visual-first coaching model suitable for learners who benefit from demonstration and mirroring, particularly those with Autism and additional needs. Delivery focuses on:
Demonstration over verbal instruction – coach shows, learner mirrors.
Visual timetables and picture cards – predictable routines reduce anxiety.
Step-by-step modelling – skills broken into small, repeatable actions.
Structured environment – clear start/finish signals, consistent routines.
Achievement tracking – visual progress charts and rewards.

Term 1: Foundation Stage
(Weeks 1–13)
Focus: Introduction, confidence building, mirroring basic movements.
Gym Fitness: Equipment safety, machine recognition, simple guided exercises.
Martial Arts: Basic stance, guard position, understanding Bagwork & Padwork, basic
bodyweight exercise.
Mobility & Flexibility: Simple stretches, static warmups, breathing routines.
Walking/Outdoor Movement: Route familiarisation, pace consistency, dynamic warm-up
walks.
Visual Support: Daily timetables, icons for each activity, progress stickers.
Term 2: Development Stage
(Weeks 14–26)
Focus: Extending routines, building independence, developing consistency.
Gym Fitness: Ingrained exercise safety, machine recognition, muscle anatomy recognition.
Martial Arts: Move combination understanding, controlled pad & Bag striking, independent
bodyweight exercises.
Mobility & Flexibility: Recognition of basic stretches, flow routines, improved range of
motion.
Walking/Outdoor Movement: Longer distances, interval work, tracking personal pace.
Visual Support: Progress charts, routine cards.
Term 3: Performance & Achievement Stage
(Weeks 27–39)
Focus: Independent application, self-regulation, personal benchmarks.
Gym Fitness: Full routine following a visual plan, safe machine use, personal bests.
Martial Arts: Longer combinations, more advanced techniques, independent practice.
Mobility & Flexibility: Learner-led stretch routines using visual prompts, advanced mobility
and flexibility understanding.
Walking/Outdoor Movement: Measured distance/time targets (non-competitive).
Visual Support: Individual progress summary and end-of-year celebration.
